Hanne Tyrmi has always expressed herself through different materials. Hand and mind are in constant dialogue. By using and processing materials such as lead, steel, bronze, wood, felt and cardboard, Tyrmi conveys basic human experiences and gives them a physical and tactile form.
The artist wants to explore the vulnerability that characterizes both society and the individual, an experience of barriers and loss, power and powerlessness. Tyrmi uses ideas of the body – as social and political reality – as a pivotal point in her work.
Hanne Tyrmi (1954) lives and works in Oslo.
Tyrmi has been active on the national and international art scene since the 1980s. Amongst others, she has done solo shows at the MAM in São Paulo (1995), Henie Onstad Art Center (2001), Haugar Art Museum (2014), Kunstnerforbundet (2016) and Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo (2022).
